Most MD 11 are used as freighters and this one looks much like a freighter, so there hopefully were no passengers behind the flight crew. The MD 11 was derived from the DC 10, but with a bigger and heavier body. Only the size of the wings were taken from the smaller DC 10. So the MD 11 needs a higher approach speed, about 160 kts. with full flaps and as a freighter is much heavier for landing. A go around would have been a good option to avoid a Narita disaster. Lucky PF.

@PilotoAltuna I don't think that uploader is a stupid! Take a look at the windsock and aee why :) The pilot just made a bad landing but, of course, this doesn't mean that he is a stupid. It's just a landing.

@flyingthings1 Take a look at the windsock, just before touchdown and see...the wind is not strong...5 to 10 knots......with this wind you can make a perfect landing with a small DA 20 Katana. For a big airplane it is not a problem...so this landing is really bad. But everyone can make mistakes. Errare human est :)
