i googled up in wiki: they're more like Goth Metal.
Symphonic Metal is like Nightwish, sounded more heavy, dark, grand and epic.
Tuomas Holopainen from NW even addressed their music as Power / Symphonic Metal.

WT is more celtic, even Sharon said so on the interviews.
But metal? I have my doubt.
They're not as heavy honestly, but not in a bad way.
WT make great music.
Music wise: whatever genre they are or will be: they make great music,

WT is generally classifed as Sympthonic or Operatic Metal and is probably correct.

"Metal" is too wide a term and covers different genres within it such as Heavy Metal, Death Metal etc.

Early in WT's history, they had more Gothic edge to them, as well as Robert doing the grunting as per Death Metal. Their Mother Earth album was more earthy/fantasy sounding. They had slowly progressed over the years, but Sympthonic Metal is probably them now, as much as bands like them have a neat "category"
