Nate and Blair are too much like everyone he sees around him. Nate and Serena are just a little too Ken and Barbie. Nate/Cougar was sick on...many many levels. His thing with Jenny seems like little more than a cross between checking if you and your good friend might be more than friends and a rendezvous with his buddy's (at the time) little sister.

Vanessa, though, is exactly what he wants/DESPERATELY needs. A chance to break the mold. He was a better character with her, more potential.
