Hughes 500 Demonstration

Rotorfest 2008
Brandywine Airport
West Chester, Pennsylvania
Sunday October 12, 2008

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as this Hughes 500 is put through its paces in a demonstration over Brandywine Airport. As far as I can remember, this was the first time a Hughes 500 took part in any kind of demo at Rotorfest.

Like what you've seen? Well, if you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • The canted stabilizer on the tail of the helicopter would identify this as an early model 369 series (369H, HE, HS Commercially known as the 500C). The MD 500 Series is still one of the most popular helicopters in the US and abroad with law enforcement agencies, military, and utility operators. Its currently manufactured as a MD 500E or MD 530F in Mesa Arizona at MD Helicopters.

  • It wouldn't be a 500 if it was a NOTAR..It'd be either a 520N or 600N.

  • @motokid032 Update...now we have 4. (2) F models, (1) E model at the factory getting turned into an F, and (1) D model.

  • One of the best helicopters ever made. I actually prefer those old C Models with the V tail, especially with low skids...the classic "Loach"! Too bad that MD was so poorly managed back in the 80's...a lot of operators, sadly, had tomoved away from them as service at the time with MD was so shitty. Good thing that's changed these days. My boss had two that he crop dusted in in San Diego County back in the 70's and 80's.

  • Watched this for about 5 minutes then stopped. Never really saw anything interesting! Did I blink at the wrong time??

  • We've got 6 in our fleet here in San Diego.

  • Best sounding Helo hands down.

  • Cleveland has two!
