Alright, so Dick Zimmerman is not a name you instantly think of when you think of magicians. In fact, magic was only a sideline for Dick as he was an executive with Mattel. However, this routine, from a Merv Griffin magic special is well worth watching and worthy of being housed in the vintage magic collection.
In particular is a sweet, intimate trick with a rope and a small circle. Watch for it.
That's really good.. I'm going to try and do it at school. It's a simple enough rutine but I only watched the first two or three minutes... I got bored

I was part of that Jr. magic explosion that joined the junior Castle ranks with Mark Kalin, Dirk Gingel, Todd Robbins, Jeff Young and other Long Beach Mystics. Dick and Diana were incredible roll models and provided an excellent experience bringing in people like Peter Pit and Mark Wilson to give us insights of their profession. M. Yamashiro

Great to see this act again.
Dick appeared at the Christmas Magic Circle Show in 1981 (I think) - sheer brilliance - a great act.
Unfortunately, his Wife Dianne did a spot in the second half and literally bored the audience to death - a 20 minute routine (???) using just a thumb tie! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz !!!!
Christ the act was painful.
She should have just stuck at being Dick's assistant!

I ordered Dick's Ring and Rope Trick from him in 70s, back when I was a kid. When I wrote him that it never arrived, he send me a new one and a long, funny letter about my mailman doing a magic act. Funny how little kindnesses by "big name" can have an impact. Classy Guy.

Still love that act after all these years.
Always loved that milk in pail routine!

This is great. I've known that Dick was a magician, but don't think I'd ever seen any of his routines before. Maybe I saw one of his magician TV appearances like this one when I was a kid in the '70s, but since knowing him as a ragtime pianist, I've only heard that he was an accomplished magician as well.

I actually remember seeing Dick do the ring on rope on Carson too(?) I love animations and this was/is one of the finest!

Old-fashion stage magic with class. Or, as the teenagers say: "Now, that's kickin' it Old School!"
I never seen that ring-and-rope done without some kind of concealing handkerchief, before. Just brilliant! And, Chinese rings done with hula hoops? Only one other magician has been Youtubed doing it. But, given Merv Griffin's youthful appearance in this clip? I would have no doubt as to Mr. Zimmerman pioneering such a variant. Thanks for sharing this!

This is classic.Original theme. Lots of charisma,& personality. All the tricks blend seamlessly into the next one, building to the finale. Many magicians can learn from ths.
