I agree. This would have been a much better intro for the show.
I had read somewhere that this was the intro Paramount had wanted, but the producers convinced them to go with the Russell Watson intro.
I know this music is from the soundtrack of one of the Next Generation movies, but the intro music from the Next Generation TV show was from Star Trek The Motion Picture. Would have been kind of fitting I think.
