Religious people telling people about morals is like a priest asking to bath your child you may think he is doing you good but he is only thinking of what he is getting out of it.
Apparent we all suffer from subjective moral notions, since, there would be no need to cherry pick from the bible, if it weren't so horrific for even believers to accept.
Does anyone consider stoning their kids moral?
Does anyone consider still consider enslaving people to be moral?
The best this that can be said...humanity's overall notions of morals are getting better...no thanks to religion...which is generally among the last to accept social changes and the first to take ownership... :(
The bible also endorses slavery and that is what early American colonist used to justify it. It wasn't god who said slavery was wrong it was humans. Oh and Hitler was a Roman Catholic and the majority of Nazis were as well. Your argument is pointless because Islamic people believe in god ( and justify their actions with him) and that god tells them to FLY FUCKIN PLANES INTO BUILDINGS SO WHAT IS YOUR POINT?
Morals don't come from a god. We know this. If god told you to murder random innocent children, you'd think that that is wrong, regardless of WHO dictates it to you.
Correct, and that is why we all still debate details of morality today!
Morality IS subjective, but that doesn't mean that anything goes. Just because people disagree on the morality of certain things does not somehow validate the bizarre pseudo-morality of your bible.
@saintpine People in the Nazi army might have been proud to be in the army because of propaganda. Or they might have been forced into the army, killing others in fear of retribution from within the military (severe penalties etc).
Also, there probably are christians who refuse to pull the trigger and they might do so for several reasons. A lot of christians don't own a gun nor are in or have been in the army.
And then of course there are those who do not consider their enemies to be humans.
@FHomeBrew "So you're implying that their religion (regardless of the flavour) did not give them the moral guidance not to kill other humans."
What I'm trying to understand is why and how a Christian could convince himself to kill people without even trying a peacefull tactic, kill them for no personal reason, no defence, simply to respect orders.
Why aren't there any christians that refuse to pull the trigger ?
On the same basis, we should analyze Nazi Germany.

Well, couldn't you say that Hitler is the very proof that society determines morals?
He and his regime managed to shift the morals of an entire nation in a very short time frame.
How did he manage that if society doesn't play a role in our views on morals?
Hitler didn't live in a society which wanted to take over the world - he CHANGED the society he lived in!
And yes, societies constantly sit down and agree what is socially immoral - we call the end result "laws".
