Getting ready for final fit and finish - I have not really shared how it works in the air frame yet as I was waiting for some parts. With all the moving parts (plastic chain, sprockets and axels) silicone really helps with ease of motion). I guess good ole Leroy Grumman designed his landing gear this way (with most of his early planes) because he couldn't retract into a bi-plane wing (F3F) or his seaplanes ("Goose" I think) of the 30's.

I hope the added weight does not affect its flying ability too much, but time will tell. I need to get a scale!

  • This is just brilliant! I wish I were this capable at modding. Would LOVE to make this F4F my 2nd plane, but training with the Super Cub has gotten me committed to the act of taking off and landing. I don't even think about hand-launching anymore. If I got this PZ F4F, I would have to figure out how to mount retracts!

  • Good day,

I did not find posts of your Grumman after this one, but here is a question anyway.

Would the wheel angle of the wheels, be adjustable to meet a different fuselage? we are working on a 1/7 Grumman Goose (~9ft ws) we are working on building a scale model ( radial engines etc), the concession so far is the wasp engine would be a 7 cylinders instead of a 9, ( but still looking for a 9 that fits the ws) please let me know about the retract you are building

    sincerely,

    alain

  • @Coyotehello

Thanks what would you like to know. There was alot of drawing and trial/error to get the angles and hinge points correct. I did post the drawings on the PZ Wildcat Owners forum if you want to check it out.

  • Amazing! I would be interested in buying a gear set from you if you ever made more.

  • @canamwing

Sorry - but one was enough for me- took way too much time to make. Thanks for the Kudos.
