The basics of FileMaker 11.
Your database solution would quickly fall to chaos if there were not some consistencies. FileMaker makes that easy with Field Validation.
FileMaker lets you test against certain criteria & will throw an error message if it does not pass!
There are many types of requirements FileMaker can impose on your solution's fields. You can have it check only when data is being entered, or always. The difference being, scripts and imports do not trigger when you choose to check during data entry.
FileMaker gives you the option of allowing your user to override the error message, as well as giving them a custom message of your choice.
Some of the requirements FileMaker can impose are:
Strict Data Type, Not Empty, Unique / Existing Value, Member of a value list, In a certain range of numbers, You can have it validate by running it through a calculation you write, or you can have it set to a max number of characters.
This is part eight in a very long training series, brought to you by LebonTech Solutions.
