I'm a big fan of regional hot dog styles, I found this recipe in my latest edition of Cook's Country magazine and it sounded interesting.

  • Cool video! I'm the guy who wrote into Cook's Country that generated the response. I was really excited to try it out, but it didn't meet my expectations. It was too "sweet and sour" compared to the classic sauce I remember at Clixes in Wyckoff NJ. I started a blog with the intention of posting my findings for the perfect recipe, maybe you'll be my first post!

  • @ToddPost How cool is that. Yea, I agree with you it was too sweet and sour. I've never had the sauce from Clixes so I can't compare it. I lived in the mid-Hudson Valley where the Texas Wiener Sauce is completely different from any other. There is a really good food forum dedicated to hot dogs on roadfood dot com. Where is your blog, I'll check it out.

  • As for the old food processor, I think they made them better because newer ones wear out faster. We still use one that's over 25 years old.

Why not just make your favorite chili? I mean this looks good but being cheap and lazy, I would make chili for dinner one night, then hot dogs the next night with chili for a topping. lol. Of course, you can do that step in the food processor, too. :)

  • @VivianRinSC I used to live in the Mid-Hudson Valley area of upstate NY. There are so many variations of hotdog sauces in the north east. One of my favorites is the Texas wiener sauce that's served at Dallas Hot Weiners in Kingston NY. The recipe is a family secret but I was able to figure it out and make a sauce that's almost identical. These sauces freeze really well, I put the leftovers in small freezer containers and take them out when we want hot wieners.

  • This stuff looks really tasty and definitely worth a try. Something about a good Nathan's on a summer day.

Good score on the two dollar food processor too!

  • @TangoSpiceCompany I watched the Nathan's hotdog eating contest on the 4th and I've been craving a good Nathan's hotdog since. I love trying out new hotdog variations, there are so many, search wikipedia for Hot_dog_variations, one of my favorites is the deep fried variations found in northern NJ.

  • @tdjtx Hey i grew up eating a Dallas Hot Weiners in Saugerties when i was a kid. Do you think you can send me the recipe you figured out? I would love to be able to taste that flavor again without flying 3000+ miles to get it! haha

  • @tdjtx I have yet to try a deep fried dog, but since I am a fan of about anything from the frier I bet this is a taste treat.
