This is a short test review of the Onda VX545HD personal video player. The purpose of this video is to test the video and audio quality of my camera and to see how well it plays when being unconverted to a higher resolution. Comments and questions are welcome!

  • i have the a590is also...great camera!!

i use the 640x480LP mode in video...

cause i encode the video to divx avi anyways and kill the video bitrate to somthing like 1500 so it doesnt matter in the end..

but when u shoot it the LP mode eats up less space on ur SDHC card and battery life

    ...

    cheers mate

  • Nice! Good call, how did you know it was a a590is? I didn't think I mentioned it at all, but you can see it briefly in the reflection I guess... I haven't messed with the 640x480LP settings yet. I ended up sticking with the 320x240 and then re-encoding with "MediaCoder" @ 640x480 30fps. The quality isn't that great, but I'm saving up for an actual camcorder to mess with now.

    Thanks!

  • Does it support .SRT (subtitles) ? Thanks!

  • Yes, as long as they are in English. I hear that some users had issues with subtitles in German, where any characters that are native to that language would not show up correctly.

  • thanks acid.. I'm trying to find alternatives to have an external monitor for my camcorder and not spend $700... ARGHHH... haha

  • No prob, have you considered a portable video game console screen? If you are just looking for standard RCA compatibility(Yellow, Red, and White plugs) and not HD it would work pretty good I bet. Check em out on ebay just search for "portable PS1 screen" and you'll see what I'm talking about. Only thing is you might have trouble with power since they normally run off a cigarette lighter plug in a automobile. There are mods out there to make them run off batteries though, if your good with solder

  • I c. Thx. My case would be Portuguese Subtittles. Must happen the same.

  • When I first got the player there was no NTSC support. Now that they have released several updates to the firmware NTSC TV-Out works fine. No, you cannot use this as an external monitor because there is no video input, just output.

  • thanks for the review... is this PAL or NTSC? do you know if I can connect a camcorder to it and use it as an external monitor?
