I was very surprised that nobody has posted this great version. For years the "off air" recordings of the BBC sessions with Barrett's Pink Floyd circulated, until an engineer who had taken a tape of the early Pink Floyd gave it back to the BBC—who played it during a tribute to John Peel on their website. During this tribute, the first Peel programme (Top Gear) was aired in its entirety. This show featured 1967 live versions of "Flaming", "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", and a brief 90-second snippet of the instrumental "Reaction in G". Here is Flaming and I think it's very good. This is for Syd.

  • barretts floyd surely was the smartest band ever, they top the beatles in my opinion!

  • @Gantrey This is the ultimately refined, perfectly inflected, voice of His Majesty Syd Barrett.

  • Thanks for posting this. I already commented a few months ago on the amazing sound quality. Will you post Set the Controls and Reaction in if you have them? I cant believe that this tape was actually preserved. For years it was assumed that it was lost forever and I'll be dammed,. I go on youtube and find the original recording from the BBC sessions. What is taking so long for the floyd or BBC to officially release this treasure?

  • syd was so awesome

  • thanks for the upload

  • who's singing? david or syd? can't recognize the voice well...

  • 'traveling by telephone' best ever line and so pertinent to today's digital culture where people 'travel' all over the world by smart phones.

  • The Piper at the gates of dawn was light years ahead from anything else at its time!! What a true gem! This is one of my favorite songs in the album!! I just close my eyes and I'm running free in an open field with dandelions and unicorns! Away from all the depressing bullshit of reality!!

  • @scottudell Have you heard the album?? It is exactly the same, even if the recording is mixed differently, I promise you that is the album vocals.

  • @johntheboymac DEFINITELY get the Have You Got It Yet? fan bootleg discs. It will blow your mind.
