Listen to Harry CHAPIN's "The Parade's Still Passing By" and you'll get chills. I think that this is a testament to the greatness of this type of music. It transcends age and time and is relevant to all of us. I've turned on Many friends who are my age (32) and even younger to this music. I strongly encourage you to do the same. Now more than ever, we need to hear songs like these. We all need to take it upon ourselves to do something to make this world a better place to be. -Mike Tocci

I haven't listened to Phil in years, but this reminds me how prescient and brilliant he was. His values and passion are sorely missed...brings tears to my eyes to hear this now.

Yep.... This must hve been the Bush and Cheneys favourite song in those days....Good old George Bush was busy leading from the front!..... A.W.O.L From the Texas National Guard...and as for Dick Cheney he dodged the draft five times! with Deferments.................... .............................. ........ [the last time because his wife was ten weeks pregnant...and was granted 3A Hardship status shortly after he was over 26 years of age and no longer eligible ]

After the Revolutionary war and maybe WWII, Vietnam was this country's most important war, maybe the world's, because it proved that the people inherently know right from wrong and if they stand up, united, they can stop war.

Far be it from me to bring up a "pointless distraction". My point was to clarify to duncanhunter2008 that the Democrats didn't necessarily start the draft. It would be pointless to play the game of divide and conquer among ourselves. Both political parties have been guilty and that was my main point. War is a racket and with few exceptions, it always has been.

It doesn't matter at this point who started the draft. It matters who's using it. Bush and Cheney started an unnecessary war- and murdered many people for profit. Any other technicality you want to bring up is a distraction and pointless.

Actually, the Confederacy in our War between the States were the first in our country to have a draft. The North followed suit under a Republican administration in 1863 causing riots, because if one had 100 dollars they could have themselves exempted. Sound familiar? Phil could have added another line to this classic; It's always the RICH to lead us to the wars, it's always the POOR to fall.
