@OhReallyNoWai You're suggesting insects can't rest on floating debris or persist on dead plant or animal matter? The Genesis account speaks of "waters under the firmament" - vast subterranean seas extant at the time, some 4,400 years ago. A geocataclym disrupted the crust's integrity leading to vast tectonic plate shift and emission of high-pressure waters into the atmosphere; hence the rain. The morality of the deity who made the cataclysm is a theological question best debated elsewhere.
@Countrygent100 Most of the insects also require oxygen and food. Where do they rest and find food if there is nothing but sea? It doesn't really help the story along. Besides, where did the water come from and where did it go? Even with all the ice melting, the water level wouldn't get that much higher, let alone it covers the highest mountains. Even so, why would God allow the place to be flooded? Erase his own mistakes? Both the morale and the credibility of the story make no sense at all.
@OhReallyNoWai 2 million ANIMAL species? Even the most conservative of estimates of air-breathing animals (mammals, birds, reptiles) doesn't exceed 17,000. The Genesis account states that Noah was to take only those animals with the breath of life in them. "Breathing" animals suggests lungs. Amphibians, fish, insects, etc, would NOT be on the Ark. Nor would aquatic mammals. This dramatically lowers the on-board animals. Need any animal-cargo be ADULTS? Have you really thought this through?
I doubt that ship's size was even close to any of the ships we can build these days. Even our current biggest ships can not carry over 2 million different animal species, let alone give them some moving space to to prevent serious health problems such as trombosis. Apart from that, you would at least need another ship like that just store the food required for one week.
