Yacht and tanker collide at Cowes Week regatta

A website cameraman captured the moment when a yacht and an oil tanker collided in the Solent during the annual Cowes Week sailing regatta.
Two people were rescued from the sea after the collision. One was taken to hospital and later discharged.
Solent Coastguard was alerted at 15:20 BST on Saturday that the yacht Atlanta of Chester had been involved in the incident.
The collision involved the tanker Hanne Knutsen off Egypt Point, Isle of Wight.
The footage was taken by Tim Addison, who was filming racing for cowes.co.uk, the website of the Cowes Harbour Commission.

I'm a sailor myself, I'm in the Navy reserves and I'm doing the RYA Coastal Yachtmasters. I know all too well that accidents happen on the sea. But this is just a classic example of poor seamanship.
The most embarrassing thing about this is that the yacht was commanded by an ex-naval commander and his crew were all commercially endorsed yachtmasters!

To be a top yachtsman one has to take slight risks occasionally. If you want a safe easy stress-free life then a tanker captain would be the way to go.

If I was driving the yacht it would have been the orange ship that crumpled, not my fucking yacht. Fuck orange ships. Don't let them push you around.

In this case and time the sail boat was the more maneuverable craft and there for was at fault. IMO that was a case of stupid.
