Transgender - Putting the T back in LGBT

Weighing in on the current debate over prejudice and hatred of transgender/transsexual people. Also, discussing the recent beating of a trans woman in Baltimore, MD when she tried to use a public McDonald's restroom.

Most people aren't familiar with the transgender community, so here's my attempt to summarize what the trans folks are all about.

@TenWhoWereTaken You seem to ignore that women can become men, and yes that includes having a penis. Transgendering can go both directions.

I was generally of the general opinion that "gender identity" - at least in the social/behavioral sense - is largely a construct arising from communal pressure and "brainwashing", much like how children are indoctrinated into religions; however I can see that hormones/brain chemistry can play a role in this as well.

@TenWhoWereTaken As you said, you are a man. You are not a man because you have a penis. You are a man because you feel like a man, and whatever genital you have cannot change this. The problem that transpeople face is that they are born with the wrong body, they are not as lucky as you are.

@TenWhoWereTaken You draw the wrong conclusions, but you're in the right direction. Transwomen are women, and it doesn't matter what genitals they have, because gender is not based on genitals.

@jonthefire Well, considering your book is basically a rip off of the sumerian, babylonian, canaanite, jewish and other religions, edited numerous times (By thousands of authors each spewing their own biases based on the political climate at the time.) translated, and miss-translated over and over, I don't believe the bible is anything to put much faith in...

Sorry, but the bible is not the word of god. Archaeology, comparative literature and Linguistics prove this.
