John Moore of Boston Clean Air Cabs talks about the challenges and benefits of introducing hybrid vehicles to urban cab fleets. Plus a word from the lucky driver of Boston's first hybrid cab. Shot at AltWheels, footage for our Treehugger TV piece.
You're still ignoring the fact that the good people of Boston will be able to breathe easier with the crown vics off the road. That's apparently not your concern, but it is mine. And why go after John? Take the issue up with the fleet owners.
If you sit at logan for 1.5 hours then do a trip to copley that takes 15 minutes to get there.. what did you make? 0.00. Do you understand now why this cost little guys money made rich people richer and was just a warm fuzzy for pinko environmentalists like John Moore? I agree with Webcabbie SCUM!
before the driver begins to make money. No cab owners are also charging $3-5 "optional insurance" (the option is you don't pay it they dont rent you the cab) bringing the total up to $112.00 or the cabbie having to make $9.33 an hour just to break even.
Lets make the math easy for MR. Moore and his buddy Jmyers. It costs $75.00 to rent a 3 year old Crown Victoria for 12 hours that will use $20-25 in gas thats a total of.. 95-100$ before the driver begins to make money. Now a Camry hybrid rental will cost the driver $95.00 and will use $10-12 in gas for a total of $107.00
jmyers your sillyer then this guy is. Im telling yout his whole initiative actually cost Boston Taxi Cab drivers more money. All this guy did was help rich fleet owners and screw the little guy.
Why are you still listening to someone who doesn't actually know what they are talking about and not a daily taxi driver? Also the intiitial "thats kool lets take the new hybrid car" vibe has work off at this point and customers are asking for roomier crown victorias.
John is a great guy. He's not out to get cabbies... in fact, he believes (and I do, too) that what he's done will help cabbies through lower fuel costs and higher demand for hybrid rides by passengers, not to mention the overall benefit of cleaner air for everyone in Boston. And John may not drive a cab, but he pedals a half-ton cargo trike from Somerville to JP and back every Saturday, effectively taking a gas-guzzling truck off the road. He puts his money where his mouth is. How about you?
You might spend more on the daily rental but you save it in the cost of GAS since prius drivers only use about 1/2 the gasoline as the old Crown Vics. Plus there are plenty of customers who will CHOOSE the clean cab over the gas guzzling ones. So you do the math.
john Moore you never drive a taxi in your life, you are nothing but one of the people going to destroy this country by their funcky imagination , u never live by fact.. try to support a family, rich bastard..
well u did hit the wall ( called federal judge wall, God want to show you that u have a limit stop messing with the poor.
John Moore does not look very smart.

does the Toyota Camry hybrids have recalls because seems like taxi drivers are not experiencing any problems with them?
