How do you exclude scenes (HUD) from filtering?

Could you please tell me either how you made the menus or how you learned to make the menus?

I would suggest learning logic bricks and doing it that way. I used an overlay scene to get the menus like that. Do a google search for blender menu tutorial and there should be something helpful there.
I actually used python scripting for menus but this isn't necessary, just a bit easier and neater if you know how to do it.

nice game if u don't mind me asking but how do u get the scenes to be preloaded

To preload the scenes, we had a preload screen. Once the screen was actiave it would load one scene as a background scene, then remove it and add a block to the loaded bar. This would continue until all the necessary scenes were preloaded. It can get pretty complicated and we ended up removing this feature as Blender 2.49 is fast enough for loading the scenes straight up now.
