1990 white label from Carl Cox.
Mixes the piano riff from Landlord (produced by You Tuber
theleeproject) with the 'Bass Kickin Beats' mix of 'Roll It Up' by Success N Effect.

Bass Kickin Beats was an obscure hip hop b-side that Frankie Bones (aka You Tuber frankiebones01) played, and indeed used on The Break Boys 'My House Is Your House'.

According to Frankie's review of it on Discogs
"For the first 6 months of my arrival to the U.K. back in the later months of 1989, this was my most treasured track, the one people would remember me for. The vocal "Let The Bass Kick" followed by The Winstons "Amen Brother" breakbeat with a sub 808 that was deadly. Felix Sama's edit work was effective on this chopping Big Daddy Kane's Vocal "Let It Roll" (made popular by Doug Lazy) into little bits before crashing into that 808/breakbeat again. Carl Cox would get his copy from Lenny Dee in Feb. 1990 and went and did a white label remix which would result in his ink with Perfecto Records for "I Want U (Forever). After that it became the template for the young U.K. youth who began to experiment in the studio. The end result being Jungle and Drum & Bass. This record was the prototype"

  • OMG, what a fucking tune... I know its a mashup of the landord etc. etc. but I don't care. It was just one of those seminal tracks of the time that everyone used to get up and dance to when it came on.

Early ninties were the best times for raving / hardcore (in the UK), no holds barred - the scene was in its infancy, and there weren't too many idiots around to spoil it. Sadly it didn't last; the music, people and drugs all turned a bit crap, but we have the memories..
