Extraction of the Blu-ray (405nm) and DVD (660nm) laser diodes from a 6x Blu-ray disc writer sled.

Also, noted are the three different versions of the sled found.

There is some evidence to suggest that the version #2 shown has a higher efficiency blu-ray diode, but this is not confirmed.

The IR diode was not extracted... but who uses those anyway?! ;)

I did not show getting the diodes out of the small heatsinks they're mounted in (I ran out of time). I might do a video for those next, but I basically just use a small brass tube (or steel antenna piece) to extract the Blu-Ray diode. The red I have to carefully snap off part of the heatsink with pliers and then work it a little with a flat-head screwdriver to get it out.

  • its aight but ur music is gay

  • @ogatsav thanks buddy

  • Nice One! Where did the sleds come from?

  • Our friends in China. There isn't anywhere you can buy directly yet (that I know of).

  • the DVD Laser Diode does it need to be a writer

    could the reader be used

  • Not sure I understand what you're asking. The red diode (for DVD) contained in this sled is for a DVD writing capability. They're seem to be about as powerful as a diode from the 20x DVD burners, though they look different.
