"The biggest goal is community. Thats what we want to build," says Adam Fisher, BUs director of basketball operations. And so the big first step for new mens head basketball coach Pat Chambers is back-to-back day camps, opportunities for aspiring Terriers and Celtics to get some instruction and have some fun with the entire BU mens basketball coaching staff.

The four-day camps are being held at FitRec, the first starting on June 22, the second on June 29. Boys ages 7 to 18 are invited, welcome for both sessions if they choose. Individual skills like shooting, ball handling, and footwork will be taught in games ranging from 2-on-2 to full court, with drills that include dribbling two balls at once while keeping heads up.

But this is just as much an opportunity to make new friends, hang in a great gym, and connect to what promises to be an exciting new BU basketball program. "As much as anything," Fisher says, "well be focused on attitude. As coach says, thats the one thing we all have control over."

Sure enough, the main suggestion from Chambers is to "bring a great attitude every day," along with lunch, sneakers, and water bottles, but no basketballs — there are plenty of those around. And if no ones quite ready to lay down monster dunks, that wont stop anyone from having a great time, judging by Dean of Students Kenn Elmores performance in the video above.

The Pat Chambers Basketball Camp costs $195 per session. Enrollment for the first session (June 22-June 25) will close by weeks end; enrollment for the second session (June 29-July 2) will remain open through next week. To enroll, call Adam Fisher at 617-358-0749. More information is available in a brochure on the BU Athletic Departments Web site.
