  • Yeah but my 1985-built Amiga introduced me to true preemptive multitasking (surfing online while writing a book report whle listening to music). Oh and the beauty of 4000-color pron.

Can the X68000 do all that? ;-)

  • There are aspects where the PC-Engins is inferior:

    1. The sound hardware can only play 32 byte long waveforms. Amiga can play samples up to 128k.

    2. The PC-Engine has 64K VRAM, which however is not really a drawback, since a tile screen needs less memory than bitmaps.

    3. Bitmaps are mandatory if you want to have a gui, or drawing polygons.

    5. The Amiga has a larger palette and can display more colours at once. But always within certain limitations.

I have owned an Amiga since 1991.

  • I love Amiga R-Type. Sure I know it's not the definite home version of the game but it's still my favourite. It's an impressive port considering how bad some of the arcade conversions turned out.

  • @harleykman The X68000 has the same CPU, so it could do even better. And 4000 colors is just weak. The X68000 can display 65536 colors at once without any limitations.

  • Just listening to these weird sound effects makes me feel young again.

  • @porcorosso81 The PC Engine version also got criticised for bad flicker as I can recall.

  • @TeamRocketReviews Great comment ! I agree everything you said.

  • @janmansde3dede NES didn't save gaming, it just made consoles good again due to great games and clever marketing. Miyamoto is certainly an excellent game designer, but not a god. SNES does have a great sound chip, but not the best. SID chip is the best. Amiga was an amazing gaming machine, but I'm more of an ST kind of guy myself.

  • I paid alot of money for my 1st Amiga 30 years ago, I paid quite a bit for the Spectrum as well a coupla years before. Nice to take a nostalgic trip down memory (albeit very slow) lane. The graphics have become nearly lifelike but the original ideas haven't been that much more imaginative. Kill the blokes...and/or collect the treasure...build stuff or blow it away or have it blown away! Loved all the several incarnations of my Amigas(gae?)Not seen a lot of progress since the X-Box 10 years ago

  • Btw, considering the Amiga vs. PC-Engine debate: it's kind of stupid to compare a general purpose computer against a video game console, because it should be obvious that both machines have different purposes (and price tags). The PC-Engine was specifically designed to play Arcade quality games, the Amiga is a multimedia computer. Anyone not having both is missing a lot, because both are great machines.

  • @Arkhandroid

If you would have read the entire comment section, you would have noticed that there is no need to defend the PC-Engine against me. Relax, it's one of my favourite consoles. I actually coded and developed on it a few years ago. Not an emulator, but my original one.

  • Crap sound!!!, c64 way better!!!!!
