I'm complaing about the american carachteristic of not calling american things, that were created in american, doesn't matter the influence, just american like Brasil does. If it was created in america, it's american, period.
You are correct. But these "roots" influenced the creation of something new, like rap, jazz (like samba, there's a melodic background that is NOT african, but the result of the contact of the blacks in Brasil and US with the european culture)
Anyway, Brasil is a 190 million people country, wit the most complex cultures in the world. Unless you spend some years here, you'll never understand. The brasilianists take 20, 30 years in Brasil just to write a single book about social relations in Brasil. Don't try to simplify things. It' will lead you into assuming wrong things.
Due to the fact that most people(depends on the region)are "pardos", and pretty much everybody lost track of the origin of ancestors, it's impossible for people to keep asking what you are, like in the US. It become part of inconscient of the people. It's easyer not to worry about.
hiphop is an american thing, but the griots of west africa do what exactly? they rhyme and tell tales over a rhythm similar to hiphop ones, some even becoming more abstract than hiphop ones. the tradition was carried across, lost then found again. you shouldnt talk of influence, in west africa. sure u got "hiphop" and "kwaito" in south. but the roots lie there
i went to a brazilian restaurant recently. white owned. and they had two black women on the board with juggs on their heads. i was confused as to the message they were trying to convey. that is african tradition in Brazil and NOT european tradition in brazil. and my grandma told me about the racism in brazil and ive seen how blacks are STILL treated. dont give me this unity crap.
im not talking about purity. im talking about ORIGIN. i could not care less about the mixes these dances underwent. but capoeira was devellopped by African slaves in Brazil, truelly. I never said it came from Africa, but from AfriCANS-who at the time spoke their own languages and had their own cultures. dont get me wrong
No. They are hated because they don't have a clue about the world and act like they do had.
