Snowy White - one of the top guitar players ever, and most certainly THE most underrated.

This is a renewed version of his first hit, "Bird Of Paradise", from his debut album 'White Flames' (1983). This new version was released on his last studio album, 'The Way It Is' (2004). Compare to the original version you can find on YouTube.
The second is an ultra funky version of Peter Green's 'Black Magic Woman' (Yes, it's originally Greeny's, not Santana's...) also from the same album. Enjoy.

Snowy was a session musician, then worked with Pink Floyd (Animals, The Wall albums + tours). He later joined Thin Lizzy and recorded the albums Chinatown and Renegade.

In '83 he started his solo carreer, and to date has recorded 9 studio and 2 live albums, plus a handful of compilations and independent singles. He has worked with artists such as Peter Green, Gary Moore, Roger Waters, Ray Charles, Jim Capaldi and more. In 2009 he plans to release two studio albums, one with side project "Snowy White Blues Project" and a second with his long-time band 'The White Flames'.

  • Like vanu49 notes; while SW is a musicians' musician par excellence, he is - I believe primarily because of this song - also well known among a broader audience favouring players who offer genuine taste and feeling.

But OlUncleJone; while this version is so breathtakingly beautiful that not even the ghastly drum machine can disturb the magic, would you know why SW has rearranged it so close up to Brothers in Arms? We all know his song came first; is there a story behind this arrangement?

  • I guess the drum machine was meant to make it sound like Rammstein.

As far as "Brothers In Arms" goes - gosh, I always thaught it's the same song...

I guess Snowy was just trying to sell a few more albums.

    PS -

BTW, "Joe" is spelled without an 'n'.

    :-)))

  • Great version! Sounds much better than the studio version, I think.

  • They're both studio versions from "The way it is".

  • One of the very best guitarist ever!!!

  • @OlUncleJoe I'm pretty sure that drum machine is a Japanese man who's timing has yet to be rivalled by anything Roland can make.

  • Sorry about the misspelling; a mere "editorial"!!

Guess you are right about the motivation for this version - particularly with regard to the drummachine-LOL (great comparison!!!)

  • "Most underrated", well hes not looking for the big thing, thats why I love his work. People who love good music know how to find him.

    Tks for the upload.

    我很赞同。因为我看了BSAS LIVE roger waters,and 《wet dream》of rick wright in 1979,怀特先生的吉他水平确实很高,不光是布鲁斯,而且包括摇滚。

    风格虽然多变,但吉他很稳,严重被低估了的顶级吉他艺术家。
