  • About 40% of people are B12 deficient and less than 5% of people are vegetarians. The problem is, as you age you loose your ability to absorb B12 from food. This is called atrophic gastritis which means the stomach secretes less hydrochloric acid, pepsin and intrinsic factor that are needed to absorb B12. This is very common in older people. All people should take B12 regardless of whether you are a vegan or meat eater. It really is a silly debate when people say vegans are B12 deficient.

  • @basava3232 What kind of food do you eat? I may suggest transitioning to a higher caloric consumtion of starches and eliminate free fats and junk food from your diet (if you eat that kind of stuff) The normal dosage for B12 is about 5 micro grams pr day. But check out the McDougall diet and eat more fruit, such as bananas :)

  • @HYPASPACE Vegans take tinctures, capsules or B12 shots

  • @VeganPua Not washing our produce also increases our risk of ingesting Parasite eggs. Another BIG concern

  • @HYPASPACE The danger for vegan is that we usually get much more folate than meat-eaters. Which mask the symptoms because it play some of the same roles that B12 play.

  • @HYPASPACE Nutritional yeast, spirulina, chlorella, tempeh can contain some B12 like other fermented food (always keep in mind that no plant produce it neither animals, only bacteria!), fortified food lile cereals, soy/almond/rice/whatever milk, meat-alternatives, energy bars or supplements.

The main problem is that since it come from bacteria there's no B12 on fruits and vegetable because we're in a germ-phobic society. We put pesticides, fongicides, wash, sterilize everything!

  • So where are these vegans getting their b12 in the first place?

  • @basava3232 It would be best if you asked your doctor to check your B12 level and your folate level. Your doctor will decided if injections are better for you or if you can take pills.
