@sassycerulean - a reference to the videogame PORTAL, hence my mentioning of the "enrichment center". If you don't know it then the cake joke will of course escape you. To make it short: in the game your character will be offered a cake when complying with the orders given through a female robotic voice. But in the course of the game you come across cryptic messages on certain walls, proclaiming "the cake is a lie". You won't know until completing the game whether this cake really exists or not.
