How to tie your aikido belt (obi)

A clip that demonstrates a good way to tie your belt for aikido, as the finished knot is pretty flat & the belt doesn't cross over at the back (beneficial when taking ukemi).

I don't believe in aikido.. but this is the best way to tie a belt if you are wrestling- it will stay on. And it looks esthetically correct.

I would, however, just like to assure you that Aikido does exist. I've been studying it for several years now, alongside some of my good friends (who have also been training for a number of years).

Ok, let me correct myself. No disrespect. I did not say "exist". I do not believe Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause or God exist. I do believe Aikido exists, I do not believe it is practical in the fight.

Aikido could very well be used in a fight and cause great harm, but the creator, Morihei Ueshiba having studied all the other forms decided to create Aikido as a way of fending of an attacker and also protecting the attacker from injury. Some criticize it because of that, but believe me when I tell you that my Sensei would make a believer out of you very quickly. Not every type of self-defense need be broken necks, arms and blood everywhere to be a worthy martial art. Life is not a movie.

Best explanation of the style of tying I've found. Its like origami, not just a knot. I think it would show up better on screen with a lighter color belt though.
