http://www.MRSHomeschool.com This video is my response to a recent article by Georgetown Univ. professor, Robin L. West, "The Harms of Homeschooling." Obviously, I take offense to her statements in her article and wanted to show that, yes, I AM an "ignorant" homeschool mom...clueless about how her "real" world works. If you like this video, PLEASE share it with as many people as possible to spread the word that homeschoolers are NOT ignorant, isolated fundamentalists!

  • This was a great response video. Although homeschooling can have a dip in the road every now and again it is the most fullfilling thing I have ever done in my life.

  • @Bloddrake I understand your concerns, but believe they're founded on a lack of knowing an average homeschool family. Yes, some parents use homeschooling as a venue to control & even harm their kids, but is it the result of homeschooling OR the result of parents with some serious mental disorders? All the points you share (except #2) can apply to kids in public schools, too. Remember Columbine and Jonesboro, AR, among others. Thanks 4 your input, you bring up some good points.

  • @NancyDrew5858 I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't think that is the norm, but have heard of and known families who used homeschooling to be overly controlling of their children, resulting in very painful circumstances (and even death). I hope you are doing better now.

  • @davidthmovies You're right! But those children will one day leave home and then their beliefs will be put to the test. The adult child will have every opportunity to get to know other beliefs. I was raised in a nonreligious home, but always allowed to explore belief systems. When I went to college, I became a Christian in spite of my upbringing. Each person's faith HAS to be their own...not what parents have passed down.

  • @wearestarstuffsagan Yes, we teach our kids about other topics we don't necessarily believe in. I want them to be educated, not indoctrinated, and to allow them to know WHY some people believe certain ways. And we are a Christian family.

  • @EarlFaulk Not censoring...just have other things to do besides approve YT comments. :o) Didn't mention science because I wanted the video to be short. I have a B.S. in Biology. And please don't think that by sending kids to public school that they're not being indoctrinated. Just not of a conservative religious nature...

  • @Wishes591 Yes, they get more education about sex, drugs, and gangs. Oh, wait, those aren't things I want my kids to get an education on.

  • @AAAfansite Actually, I've met lots of homeschooled adults who choose not to homeschool their own kids. I think homeschooling is more about teaching kids to think and make their own opinions. Yes, there are snobs, but public schools don't exactly have that problem solved...

  • I don't think the tea party movement was the right way to go because are generation is Stubbrin, but it should have been the Homeschool Movement that's the future and the rite direction Amen to myself.

  • @Bloddrake You don't know what you're talking about, enjoy your blissful ignorance.

  • I know I couldn't do it. If I could, I don't think I would. I do';t really agree with it But - my hat's off to anyone who has the kind of patience and dedication required! What an enormous undertaking! Being a mother is a huge job; to take on the job of teacher as well is pretty much beyond my comprehension. So I can only have tremendous respect for you!
