A British National Party member is facing a long jail term after admitting keeping an arsenal of homemade weapons. Terence Gavan made 54 nail and ball-bearing bombs, and also made shotguns, pistols and pen guns, which were found after West Yorkshire Police counter-terrorism officers and a Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal unit raided his home in Colbeck Terrace, Batley, West Yorkshire on May 21. Terry Gavan was also found in possession of ammunition and bomb making manuals, while the post-code given by Google Maps for his address in Batley - WF17 7HQ - matches the name "Gavan" holding BNP Gold Membership 130757 in the 2nd leaked BNP membership list.
Terry Gavan admitted 22 charges, including 6 under the Terrorism Act, when he appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on Nov 26. He admitted 4 counts of making and 4 of possessing explosives, which consisted of 21 improvised explosive devices made with nails, 4 made with ball-bearings, 2 "victim-operated" nail-bombs and a further 28 explosive devices. He also pleaded guilty 3 counts of manufacturing prohibited weapons, 4 counts of possessing prohibited weapons and 1 count of possessing illegal ammunition...
This case comes soon after BNP election candidate David Lucas was supported by BNP chairman Nick Griffin and BNP deputy leader Simon Darby, after Lucas was charged with possessing an explosive substance, a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life, with "possessing expanding ammunition derived from the military" and related offences, which carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail...
