A beautiful Chinese love song from Teresa Teng's album 淡淡幽情專輯 (Light Exquisite Feeling, 1983). This album consisted of settings of 12 poems from the Tang and Song dynasties. The music, written by composers of her earlier hits, blended modern and traditional styles of East and West. This is my third upload from that album.

The lyrics of this song is from Li Yu's poem, 'Grief' (哀思, Ai si). Li Yu or Li Houzhu (937-978) was a Chinese poet and the last ruler of the Southern Tang Kingdom from 961 to 975 during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period. Composer is Taiwanese artist Lau Ka Cheong (born 1941).

I edited video clips (except the Moon shot) from a Chinese Wuxia-romance film, starring Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

This video is dedicated to my beloved friend Michiko-chan (AliceNine2008). She requested me to do music video of this song, which is her favourite song from this album of Teresa Teng. So here it is, a little gift to you, my friend! ^_^

English and Finnish translation and Pinyin are all made by me (Teisuka).

Lyrics:

獨上西樓
(Du Shang Xi Lou)
Alone in the Western Chamber

無言獨上西樓
(wu yan du shang xi lou)
Silently, I am alone in the western chamber.

月如鉤
(yue ru gou)
The Moon like a hook,

寂寞梧桐 深院鎖清秋
(ji mo wu tong shen yuan suo qing qiu)
a solitary tree in the park is purified by fall.

剪不斷 理還亂 是離愁
(jian bu duan li huan luan shi li chou)
A grief of parting - endless and unrelieved.

別有一番滋味在心頭
(bie you yi fan zi wei zai xin tou)
After farewell the heart is missing.

...
Finnish translation by Teisuka
Suomenkielinen käännös: Teisuka

Yksin läntisessä kammiossa

Hiljaa olen yksin läntisessä kammiossa.
Kuu kuin koukku taivaalla,
puistossa yksinäinen puu syksyn puhdistamana.
Eron suru on päättymätön ja lohduton.
Jäähyväisten jälkeen on sydän kadoksissa.

  • I miss you Teresa Teng sleep well I hope you know how many people love you even after death.

  • @teiska123 Yes, I have read some parts of Kalevala already. I am very unfamiliar with epics, I do hope I can get more knowledge of this form of poetry. ;)

  • @ZiyaoM Sure! I hope that we will continue our discussion about Chinese poetry and things like that. I also hope that you can read "Kalevala", the national epic of Finland (in Chinese language, of course, haha). Then we can talk a little bit about Finnish poetry as well. ^_^

  • @teiska123 It's my pleasure to introduce Chinese poetry to you, my friend. I remember our discussion among those topics of literature and history, and we will continue the discussion, won't we? ;)
