Latest Bring the Song entry. I won't offer anything much by way of explanation for this song, because I don't think I can. All I can say in my defence is that I wrote it at 2 in the morning.

I feel fantastic, I feel fine, (G, G7)
I feel great almost all the time, (C, G)
Just one thing bothers me when I get out of bed; (G, D)
As I get up to face the new day (G, G7)
(Every day except for Tuesday), (C, G)
I find that there's a penguin on my head (G, D, G)

Chorus:
There's a penguin, (C)
There's a penguin on my head (G, D)
There's a penguin, (C)
There's a penguin on my head. (G, D)
And it's just a trifle vexing, (G, G7)
Not to mention quite perplexing, (C, G)
To find that there's a penguin sitting on my head (C, G)

I lay with my head in the freezer
Just to see if that would please her,
'Cos central heating's not her natural climate.
But I stopped when I got worried
I'd get frostbite on my forehead.
So I hope she likes it warm, or else we're stymied.

Chorus.

Tuesdays she's nowhere to be seen,
So that's when I get clean
And wash the penguin crap from out my hair.
Where she goes, I couldn't say,
But she's back Wednesday anyway,
And some weeks she brings a small koala bear.

Chorus.

The koala's always gone
By Wednesday lunchtime; from then on
It's just me and the penguin on my head.
And though it's mightily confusing
I would hate to think of losing
That friendly little penguin from my head.

Chorus.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Very nifty picking!

  • Thanks; took a few goes, as I'm a little rusty on the banjo these days, but I got there in the end.

  • What a cool song!

  • Well, I hope so, if only for the penguin's sake! Thanks.

  • very catchy :P

  • Overheard in a pub in Saffron Walden.

That boat race on the Thames is a fix.. the same two teams make it though to the final every year.

There is a reading of Marriage by Gregory Corso on Youtube but the definitive reading is by Ian Drury of the blockheads on VODPOD

  • Nicely done.

  • Being a Cambridge man I thought you would have got the oblique reference to the classic line from the poem "marriage" by the beat poet Gregory Corso
