Grandpa's Folk Band on Norwegian TV 1975

My grandfather Selmer Ryan plays banjo with his Norwegian folk music group from Mabel, MN, on an NRK (Norsk Rikskringkasting: Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) chat variety show hosted by Erik Bye that was only broadcast in Norway. The NRK came to Minneapolis in 1975 and taped a special show commemorating the 100th anniversary of Norwegian immigration to Minnesota. This is just a segment of the nearly two-hour show. My grandfather's group plays a tune, chats with the host (Erik Bye), and then plays another tune. In Norwegian and some English.

They don't mention what the first tune is at all. But the second one is apparently "The Benson Two-Step." Glad you enjoyed it.

Uff da! Thanks for posting this. It's was amazing to see Grandpa (Orlando) Benson again, just as I remember him! Incidentally, any other Bensons that see this, I have the manifest from the ship our family came over on, and the history back to it. We are originally from the Telemark area of Norway and they came to the U.S. in 1854.

Lol, well the music wasnt that good but the mood was good!. I have a wast family in the US since my grandfather have 7 brothers and sisters moving there but they didnt have e-mails those days and the letters stopped both ways ;)
