Just as the title says, this device is a WIDS that knows what a WEP attack looks like and stops it dead in it's tracks.

  • Nice work, but, as far as I can tell, it is useless against passive attacks on WEP. Still, I guess it is better than nothing if you must use WEP for compatibility reasons. I'd still recommend WPA if possible, though.

  • Yeah, it's not useless, in fact it is faster now and stops ARPs before they even get to 50. The attacker could spend maybe a few days before getting the key. And WPA is much better i agree - this is a proof of concept, just a design, just for ... stuff.

  • They should integrate that function in dd-wrt or openwrt.

  • so super cool

  • Well I guess this would be best suited for a personal home where the only people trying to get on your net would be people in search of free or quick internet. It wouldn't stop the people a couple houses down from spending weeks waiting for the 50-100k IV's needed for a WEP attack (unless they cut it down again) that many IVs will take a quite some time to gather on normal home traffic and rotating the key every week would make it not worth the while of the attacker.

  • Brilliant! -- you should catch the flu more often... :)
