Olympic Torch Causes Violence in Seoul

About five thousand Chinese gathered at the Seoul Olympic Park yesterday, waiting for the Olympic torch to be lit. Chinese students got out of control and attacked torch protesters. More than eight thousand police were used to "protect" the torch. Here's more.

STORY:
On Sunday morning thousands of Chinese students came to support the Olympic torch relay in Seoul.

Protesters voices were drowned by pro-CPP supporters. But that didn't stop people like Kim Xun from coming out.

"I know that China is the most horrible place when it comes to human rights. They even suppress Tibet now... I think, with regards to human rights, they are too terrible."

[Kim Mingjing, Great Korean Parents Federation]: (quote 2, male)
"China abuses human rights, they treat everything using their communist ideology. We are very against those ideals."

[Han Changquang, N. Korean Refugee Federation]: (quote 3, male)
"China doesn't have the right to host the Olympic games. The Olympics are a peaceful festival, but China chooses to set up hatred between South and North Korea."

The Chinese students started fights with the protesters, throwing wooden sticks and rocks at them. After that they even tried ot attack the protesters head on. One South Korean newspaper reporter was hit by a rock and sustained an injury to the head.

"We are here to have peaceful protest, but the Chinese attacked us. They came over and used their national flags to surround us and threaten us. How can we, Koreans, suffer a shame like this in Korea, our own country?"

We will continue to follow the progress of the Olympic torch as it continues its trip throughout Asia.
