My Grandma could move that little amount of snow, wtf!

Why didn't the driver just go around the snow heap?
-
how deep of snow can you push through without a blade on front?

Hi blizzard4800,
Great shots and great video! I just wondered why the loco slowed to a stop and went back a few yards, then went and carried on forwards when it hit the road? Is it to crush any ice there may be on the road/rail intersection?
BTW, I love loco/snow clearing, call me daft, mental, stupid, but I do!
Is it possible to put the track that was cleared on the map for me please?
Interesting to see the animal trails as well!
Take care,

Very cool video. Thanks for posting!

some how watching trains plow snow never gets old!

not sure what trucker is talking about, I meant it takes a long time to thaw the knuckle and a short time to close it first., just good experienced railroading. No one said it was tough. I did it for 37 yrs, never said it was hard, but like trucking shitty hours 7 days a week,,but a lot of money to be made. I never tried chaining tires..but its probably no harder than walking 7000 feet in 2 ft deep snow to do up an air hose, then walking back. I'm was willing to do it for 100 g's a year

@Cndr289932 And here I thought railroaders were tough guys. Come out with me sometime when I have to throw chains on 14 individual wheels in sub-zero temps with cars whizzin past just feet from where you're working.

cool deer tracks

We flagged all the crossings that day due the deep snow at the crossings.

this train runs in my back yard haha. im from jefferson

Enjoyed both videos.. I liked the end of second video where it shows crossing roadway.. Bridge was neat also.. Thanks for posting.. Laura

i see the track the only thing that looked scary was that bridge that looked tini

Nope, he went classic with a ALCo S1 switcher. They may be small, but they have shitloads of power.
Why reverse at the roadway? I can't imagine that little pile of snow was too heavy to push.

Just a safety precaution. You never know what is in the snow bank .

an experienced railroader would have closed the knuckle on the front...ever have to stand in the cold with a fusee trying to thaw the packed snow under the pin?

It was not that cold out, about 35 degrees that day. Note the slushy snow at the crossing. The snow was only up to knuckle at the crossings.

Is the 7371 the old Erie Bicentennial unit? Does the old FP&E Alco still run? Thanks. Cool video, too!

The #7371 is an ex Army unit. The Erie Bicentennial unit is still on the property minus its diesel engine ( it is supposed to go to a museum). The #107 (ex NKP/FP&E)needs some minor repairs to run again, currently it is not operating.
