This is my second SKCC Sprint video, featuring several radiotelegraph (CW) contacts. Propagation conditions were rather poor this time. Station equipment: Elecraft K2 Transceiver; 100' wire antenna; Junker straight key. If you are interested in manual radiotelegraphy please go to http://www.skccgroup.com

The video camera is a Logitech Pro 9000 webcam. I didn't get the microphone settings quite right here. I like this camera alot. (...need to practice zooming the camera while sending Morse Code.) Lighting was provided by a single incandescent 40 watt lamp.

  • wow..sir, how long did you took to learn the morse code? coz' i wanna learn that too :)

  • I am still learning. It depends on what speed you want to get to. Starting from zero you can probably reach 10 to 15 words per minute within a year or so (but maybe a lot sooner). You can also learn to understand the code without having to write it down. And you can always keep increasing your speed. There are many free software programs for learning Morse Code. The important thing is, never count dots and dashes; you should just learn to recognize the sounds by ear.

  • hey Derw! I love the way you have the words on the screen to fall back on to get the other 9 letters that i couldnt Rx as it was sent. thats 9 out of an 8 letter word! Yes im that bad!! I joined the SKCC and ill get better soon!!! #5267! The yahoo group skcc is great!!!!! I have Rx lots of help! and they dont even think twice! Great people!!

  • Tks, Joe. I'm glad you like the subtitles. I included them in order to make it more intersting for folks who somehow stumble upon these vids but have no knowledge of Morse Code. Maybe they will want to give it a try... GL & 73!

  • Thank you for showing a straight key sprint, ive seen them posted but ive never tried to work a skcc sprint. Now I have an idea on what to expect.

  • Jay, the SKCC sprints are pretty laid-back; just an excuse to get a lot of SKCCers on the bands at the same time. -- 73, Drew.
