In Cedar Falls, Iowa, the government is attempting to nullify the Fourth Amendment. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the third and final reading of an ordinance adopting a 2009 International Fire Code that specifies the fire chief can require lock boxes for emergency access to keys to buildings.

According to the WCF Courier, the Cedar Falls ordinance would require lock boxes be installed on commercial buildings and apartment buildings with three or more separate units. Since 2004 the city has required the boxes for commercial buildings with alarm systems and apartment buildings with six or more units.

Many residents of the town oppose the ordinance, as this video reveals.

Ordinance #2740( An unfunded city-wide mandate) was passed with a resounding 6 to 1 vote, and it allows for the citizens of Cedar Falls to forcefully give the government keys to their comercial properties through universal 'lock boxes'. The intent of the program is to provide increased safety and protection to personal, private property which include businesses, apartments and some rental houses-- which by the way-- comes at the expense of furthering wayward erosion of fundamental constitutional rights.

  • Guess I should check.. but isnt Iowa just announced as the first "Chinese State" in America??

  • Follow the money. Do any of these council members have an interest in lock box sales, stocks, etc? Which businesses are exempted? That is a key piece of information. Are retail stores included? This is pure insanity. Insanity and tyranny are two sides of the same coin.

To protect the (citizens, children, animals, wetlands, trees, earth, snails, birds, environment, etc.) is the beginning of every draconian law on the books.

  • If they install the lock box, then just change the locks, or add another one.

  • Clever! Now they're not even going to have to break down any doors when they start rounding us up!

  • Great! Then they shouldn't have a problem making sure that ANY citizen has keys to THEIR OFFICE !! This is unbelievable! Let us know how this goes.

  • In Katz v. United States, 389 U.S. 347 (1967), the Supreme Court ruled that the amendment's protections do not apply when the searched party lacks a "reasonable expectation of privacy".
