Thanks for putting this up. I remember my high school chemistry teacher made a batch of this for class demonstration, but would not give the students the exact formula or process to make our own (this was before internet access). His stated reason was that a few years earlier some pranksters had sprinkled this stuff into the library's carpeting and scared the hell out of the custodian when it was time to vacuum the place.

What brand of iodine (iodine is how I pronounce it) water purification tablet were you using. Was it a tablet which was completely crystalline iodine or was it a tablet containing tetraglycine hydroperiodide?

I guess this is the reason why you need now to put your name in a list when you want to buy iodine. For educational purposes, it is ok. But sadly, evil people, aka terrorist, will use these same improvised set-ups, to create destructive material. Oh chemistry, you are so powerful, yet, your power can be grabbed by both the good and evil hand.

guys here is a way to improve the quality add a little sodium hydroxide in the ammonia your using this will create ammonium hydroxide which works better for making nitrogen triiodide

@RRRohanRules I have taken general and organic chemistry, and I have never heard anyone call it ioDEEN. Pretty sure that's the Texas way of saying it??
