Yeah a Martin HD- 28 list for $3449.00 and a Martin HD-16R LSH list for $2699.00 which blows all your Collings away in sound, craftsmanship, and playability. Collings CW copy of a Martin D-28CW (Clarence White) which list $5399.00, blows your Collings away. The Martin HD-28V kills all Collings. Now put your crack pipe down, and come back to reality. Even Martin D-15r D-1line, and all the D-16 line kills Collings. I'd put my HD-28,and HD-16R LSH against any Collings made. You're high

@joshcoa LOL You're so full of shit. It wasn't the guitar. You just can't pick.

@bluegrasssingingman I know what i'm preaching. You must have just seen a bad example. i played a hd-28 that sounded like crap recently. I used to think Collings had a thin sound too until i played a D2H. Go put your hands on one and see if I'm not telling the truth. as far as price, the HD-28V lists for $4099. An equivalent Collings D2H lists at $3925.

@joshcoa Enjoy your overrated Collings. I've heard and played a CW Collings. Just because a # of 1200 doesn't mean Collings is better. 1200 comes from the # 3275 is there lowest priced. Yes Collings is being used in Bluegrass. Yes they are a ok guitar. They don't have the driving power for flat picking. Collings can't compare to Martin of old or new. Collings aren't in Santa Cruz class ether. Now far as sound and craftsmanship Collings aren't as good as a Blueridge.

@bluegrasssingingman Last year Collings made 1200 guitars, Martin made 66,746. The vast majority of those Martins were entry level. Their "custom shop" guitars are built on the same table as their entry levels just better wood/finish (I have one). The lowest level Collings made was a $3275 2H. I wish you could play my D2H. You may have a change of heart like I did. What Collings have you played?

@joshcoa So learn what the hell you are preaching, before you run your mouth. Collings aren't made any better. They are made in the same process, and cost twice the price. So if you choose to pay twice the price, for a copy of a Martin. Which isn't made any better, and has half the sound. More power to you,but learn what the hell you're talking about.

@joshcoa Why don't you go see how Collings are made? You will see they are massed produced. LOL You are so miss guided. I own a 1992 HD-28, and a HD-16R LSH. Your Collings doesn't have a chance in sound,or Quality. So Martin uses a laser to cut the tops out. So Martin is massed produced. Collings uses a laser to cut there tops out, but there not massed produced. Collings have no driving power. Collings sounds like a Taylor weak. I own a hand built Yairi DY-84.It can't touch my Martin.

@bluegrasssingingman I've been a martin guy for years. i have a d-15, d-28, 71' d-21 and an OMJM. i recently got a Collings d2h. the build quality is better than any of the martins and i prefer the sound. yes, it is a newer name but who wouldn't want an early martin or gibson before then became mass produced? people pay tens of thousand for them.

Man, ain't Martin the nicest guitars to play??!!
My tone right there. nice bottom end with just the right highs. Eat your heart out Taylor. Martin player for life.

The HD-28V is sitka spruce and indian rosewood, the big basses comes from his particular forward-shifted bracing, who lets a bigger surface free to vibrate around the bridge.
