£1000 as first car insurance is great imo. my neighbour has a '71 beetle and that cost £1200 and £1500 on his own insurance fully comp'ed (he's 17)

@FRANK2759 Thanks! I've paid 1850 euro's, that's just over 1200 pounds. I did have to do some work to get it in good shape. The rear subframe has been replaced and so has the engine. The original A engine burnt alot of oil. Now I've got a 998cc engine from a '92 Racing Green, which has only done about 40,000 miles so far. It also got a right front wing because the old one was damaged. Last month I renewed all tires. I also have mounted MK2 rear lights, mud guards and chrome mirrors.

@DrummerJunior13 The acceleration wasn't too bad but wasn't great either. It's a good little runner and goes along nicely but I have since fitted a Stage One kit, first with Peco exhaust and now with an RC40 twin box. It's still quiet but drives better in my opinion. I do love the 998cc engine though. It's economical, reliable and always drives great!
