I love watching competitor reactions in the backround. I read somewhere that Bogi liked to stare down competitors to intimidate them, I wonder if that is what she was doing in the backround there or if she was genuinely interested (and probably worried) in watching Aurelia's routine
Wow - that world-champion-quality beamwork was *really* emerging here.
Notice how Boginskaya moves right in line with the end of the beam after Dobre made her difficult acro series. I think Bogi was trying to get in Dobre's line-of-sight to psych her out. Bogi was cutthroat like that - at least as a youngster (by her own admission).
Hey, thank you very much and sorry it took me so much to get back at you. I'm kinda busy with work :( I've always wondered who was doing their coregraphy back in the eighties. Exquisite, modern, full of personality, just about everything needed was there.
It was indeed Maria Cosma; she was the beam coach too. Adrian Stan was bars coach, Adrian Goreac was head coach, and Octavian Belu was acrobatics coach. What a dream team of coaches; they also produced a dream team of gymnasts: Daniela Silivas, Aurelia Dobre,Camelia Voinea, Eugenia Goleac, Kati Szabo, Gabi Potorac, Celestina Popa: all amazing gymnasts, all coached by them.
Do you happen to know who was the coreographer back then? Maria Cosma? Do they have coreography on beam, too? I heart Aurelia, an all time favorite :)
Wow, you can see the wonderful confidence and assurance on beam starting to show itself. Its a shame that Aurelia's career was curtailed by a knee injury and subsequent surgeries, plus the Revolution of 1989 shut down Deva, and that was that:(
