Hi,i got a hoover 912a last year and it works better than any of the new ones,suction is exellent considering it is only running on 400 watts,use it now and again,tend to use my hoover 612 more.

may be worth hoovering inside of the bag to get rid of ashtray samell or even giving it a very gentle handwash. use a bag air freshenr pellet should neutralise any odours. the cleaner can be converted to paper bag type as there was a paper bag version of this 912/ 912A/U7008 model namely C1312 or the domestic model 638 bag assembly will fit this machine.

I had no idea that they were a old vacuum, THere was one left in my pub when I moved in last year, and use it to clean my pub, daily, it smells like a dirty ash tray but it cleans the carpets well!!

I don't use my 912/912A much, since they're so heavy and bulky! When I do, I push a junior/senior-type bag up inside the cloth bag, and open out the end over the bag-flange. This works well, and protects the bag - it also keeps the machine authentic, since it's not a permanent fixture.
