She has a gorgeous voice, but I agree that it's missing a certain cynicism that's present when a baritone sings it. The song is all about depressing work conditions and laborers being forced to purchase from a company store and being in debt.

It is a song for a male worker, so she sings well, but the performance lacks someting.

she sings fine, but i don't get the feeling she understands what the song's about. it's supposedly to be depressing, not sexy.

Well it's just plain weird that a woman sings this song,just a song that is all about man,it's ok if you don't understand any english...I'd like to see you shovel sixteen tons baby...And if I see you coming i will surely step aside...hahahaha
