Bela Fleck & Oumou Sangare - Djorolen

A heart touching song by banjo player Bela Fleck and singer Oumou Sangare. The video starts with Oumou describing the hardships she went through as a child and how these experiences were of much help to make her a stronger woman.

I saw this great song in the documentary Bela Fleck: Throw Down Your Heart. I hope that you are moved by this music the same way I was moved.

  • This song stops time

  • A stunning performance of "Djorolen" by the great Oumou Sangare from Bela Fleck's documentary on his search for the banjo's African roots: "Throw Down Your Heart" (highly recommended).

  • @DetroitHeating it'll be very hard.. she's singing in metaphor. the literal translation would sound stupid...the sub has some mistakes in it but its close.

  • @chefmichaelhayes I am a big Bela fan but this by far outdoes anything I have heard in a long time....

  • This was not only a phenomenal documentary but this was the best song on the video, very moving...I also liked Miriam by Bela and Tounkara...

she said.ni fa tira, fa ko miri.( if you dont have a father, you'll think about it).

awesome song though,, makes you think a lot.

  • My daughter had bought me this dvd a while back and I finally took some time and watched it. I'm a long-time Fleck fan but this song got to me for personal reasons. If ever you needed to be reminded that music trancends cultural and societal boundaries, here you are. Beautiful singing and proof than the banjo can be softly soulful.
