NOTE: There is a 15 second delay between the first run and the explanation. Just didn't have the mental fortitude to render the video yet again. :-)

This is especially dedicated to the person who insisted I wasn't actually playing the song in a previous video.

How I Made the Track and Video:
Bass Direct into Presonus Firepod
Drums: Reason 4.0
Sony Vegas 7.0

  • Kool take, Ooh and Andre was still his bassist, Brown Mark joined the ranks on the 1999 album

by then Dez & Andre left the group

  • @guitargary you are correct. As much of a fan as I am I'm almost embarrassed to have made that statement ;-) hey, I was just getting over the flu. (I do believe that it was Prince himself who played the line on the record though.)

  • @guitargary actually , nope. Mark DID make his debut on Controversy. Still think it was Prince who played the line :-)

  • This is a nice interpretation of this song.. I play it slightly different but I like your way. Awesomeness!

    -Nikki

  • @NikWestBass Right on, Nik. I enjoy your work.

  • Well good try, but there are no octaves on that back side, so before you give a lesson , listen to it again yourself, nice bass ......, And yes that was Prince playing that bass line, He did it all with Dr. Fink , until 1999........

  • @ilovebasses there are when I play it.That's the one of the wonderful qualities of music, its ability to be interpreted in different ways by different musicians.

  • Hello, just wandering how I can catch you for lessons. Thanks

  • really nice work man and teally nice breakdown.

this has always been one of my fav prince bass parts.

his playing is just weird sometimes, but that's where the charm comes from.

    nice video!
