Viewliner Roomette Accommodations on Amtrak's Silver Meteor. The room filmed is Car 9710 Room 1.

For two people, the room was comfy. There were a total of 12 Roomettes and 3 Bedrooms on the car. One roomette was for the car attendant to assist with the needs of the people on the car, and was also responsible for changing the room from Daytime to Sleeping configurations and vice versa. There was also a shower on board as well which was shared between the 12 roomettes, the 3 bedrooms had their own shower.

Free water, juice, and coffee was provided, along with hot meals w/ dessert in the dining car during Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

  • so do these trains serve breakfast and lunch all that along the route??

  • @pianomanmaestro Yes they do, there's a dining car and cafe car on the overnight trains.

  • Nice video, thanks for putting it up. Does the toilet smell bad (like sewage or disinfectant), and are there decent bathrooms nearby if you don't want to use the one in the room?

  • @Sansanding The toilet doesn't smell at all. They use a vacuum system which pulls any associated odors down too. The next nearby toilet is in one of the regular coach cars. Sometimes, if there is a free room, the sleeping car attendant will let the passengers know in their car which room is free to be used as a bathroom if you wish not to use the one in your room.

  • its awesome! ive been on it yesterday

  • @pianomanmaestro If you get A room like this or the roomettes, you get free food the whole time!

  • @AmtrakFlorida Ye we didn't have enough for a room :[ Coach was annoying crying babies all night >.<. I'd rather fly reason i went because one friend was scared of flying. I will get a room though next time. How do you keep yourself entertained i slept for like 20hours. And it took like 34hours from Miami to NYC :[.

  • @romka4567 I take it all the time long distance, it's fine. If you have three people though, then one will have to sleep in coach, unless you get a bedroom which is a little more.

  • what kind of scanner are you using?

  • I'm thinking of taking the Meteor from South Florida to NYC over the summer and am wondering is it worth it to get a roomette cause I've priced it on the Amtrak website and it is like $800 bucks. I've taken coach on the Meteor to Orlando b4 & I don't know if a coach seat is really the way to go for nealy 30 hours up North. Any advise?

  • I rode the Amtrak California Zephyr train to Utah from Denver, Colorado and a couple of weeks later took the train from Provo, Utah back to Denver during the Christmas and New Year holidays. I did not get a private sleeper, but rode couch class.

By the way, I was trying out a new Magellan 1440 GPS unit and had no problems receiving the the GPS satellites on the train and the GPS showed the train accurately following the tracks as well as elevation and speed of the train!

  • Thanks for the video. I am traveling from Florida to New York for new Years Eve and have a roomette booked. This will be my first train trip and your video has helped me to see what I can expect.
