I think the Andersen version is better then the Disney version. Just because the little mermaid should of learned from her reckless decision to leave her family and risk her life for a boy she met once. And she didn't even meet him, she just saved him. But disney is a classic kid movie, it's meant to have a happy ending :)

I actually really enjoy Disney movies. It kind of ticks me off that just because it's different it's horrible.

@Lilmizzme444 Death would have been too harsh a punishment for the little mermaid though--and Anderson sent her to purgatory since she had no soul, which is even worse. No, Anderson's version should be more appreciated simply because it's more realistic. Disney has a reputation for ruining endings by making them happy--take The Hunchback of Notredame for instance--the ending was shit.
