Dancing with the Lucky Ladybug: Family Reading at the Milpitas Library celebrates the joy of reading with families together in story time at the Milpitas Library in Milpitas, California. The experience of music in the library is a joyful means to pre-literacy and to literacy. Reading and music are cousins in literacy. The listening and comprehension skills children develop through music are first steps in becoming readers. Children learn about music through literacy and through the resources at the library. They experience the joys of reading and storytelling, and, in the process, develop the skills and incentives to become readers and lifelong library users. In addition, this documentary demonstrates the history behind the seemingly simple songs that are used in story programs, as well as the need for literacy in order to research the background of the song.
