Powhaus Productions is the crew that brought you events like The Glitter Ball, POP: A Tribute to Andy Warhol, and Tulle: A Tribute to Alexander McQueen. They are taking over the Rialto Theatre downtown for Second Saturdays starting February 11 where they will be celebrating the Arizona centennial and the gem show with Arizona Gem.

Powhaus Productions joining Second Saturdays

Powhaus will produce a monthly event (and starting much earlier than previous Powhaus events--at 6pm) entertaining you with their variety shows: Djs, video artists, bands, hosts, and other performances. Each show will still be crafted around a particular theme and, as always with Powhaus events, everyone is welcome to participate, in costume or not.

Each Second Saturday show will have two parts. From 6pm-9pm the show will be FREE and will feature a soul music dance party (think The Supremes, Gladys Knight, Curtis Mayfield, etc). For those of you who have wanted to go to Powhaus parties, but they ran too late for you, here is your answer. Feel free to come and lounge or dance.

After 9pm, $5 gets you in the door for a full on production with live music, hosts, video art, drink specials and the usual shenanigans you have come to expect from a Powhaus show. Only Powhaus is aiming to amp it up even more. Party goes until 2am.

Powhaus at Second Saturdays presents Arizona Gem

On February 11 Powhaus is featuring live performances by Zackey Force Funk, Metrognome, and the party will be DJed by Mother Tierra and DJ Carl Hanni. Also featured at Arizona Gem - video artist Falcotronik. The show will be hosted by Kitty Quasar and a surprise guest. Audience members will likey come adorned with jewels, painted in mineral colors or in historic Southwestern attire, and dress up is always encouraged by Powhaus, or come as you are. This is a DANCE PARTY and variety show, both participants and spectators welcome!

More about the lineup

Zackey Force Funk has been making his mark on the music scene both in Tucson and in the west coast. He is a Powhaus favorite and will be performing a live set as well as filling the guest DJ spot for the night.

Metrognome performs using his own custom made touch screen Reaktor meta-machines: Fingerbang Hex Sequencer, Intellectualist V1 & V2, X2303 and ShadeShifter. All

Metrognome's meta-machines are controlled by a custom made IR projection touch screen with a wii controller. Metrognome has toured with Edit, Daedalus, Girltalk, The Glitch Mob, STS9, Meat Beat Manifesto, and Not Breathing.

Mother Tierra DJs for La Cocina and Mr. Heads. She spins hip-hop, old school jams, dance hall reggae, house, electronica, vogue house, downtempo, ambient and drum n bass, and will pretty much dig up anything this month to keep your booty shakin'.

DJ Carl Hanni will play soul records for you to lounge and/or dance to, 6pm-9pm. Carl Hanni is a local DJ, disc jockey, writer, music publicist, promoter and gadabout. He spins records all over Southern Arizona and on KXCI (The B-Side, 10-12 pm on Tuesdays), and writes for Tucson Weekly and Blurt magazine. With Kenny Stewart he does the monthly Saturnalia wine tasting and music events. He's a frequent collaborator with Powhaus Productions and Parasol Project. He's known for his eclectic music mixes and devotion to vinyl records.

Video artist Falcotronik will be providing projected video art during the whole show, He often collaborates with Metrognome and will have a special performance when Metrognome plays. Falcotronic is a producer, 3D animator, artist, VJ, DJ, and programmer. He has created visual light shows for Uberzone, Information Society, The Fraction, Paul Oakenfold, Goldie, Keoki, Simple Jeff, Rabbit in the Moon, Dieselboy, Korn, and Keith Emerson. He DJs for KXCI friday nights with Dave Wright (of Not Breathing) at 10pm-12am, the show is called Under Surveillance.

Powhaus' intern from Uranus, Kitty Quasar (that strange, tall, gold alien dude from Glitter Ball 3000), has come back to planet Earth and will host the whole season. For Arizona Gem he has promised to share some technology from Uranus: his mineral and crystal fueled ray gun that will transform people!
