Finnish Waffen SS Volunteers II

Formed in 1941 made up of 1200 Finnish volunteers. In May 1943 the battalion was transferred away from the front.
The unit lost 255 men killed in action, 686 wounded and 14 missing during its service.

When recruiment to Waffe-SS started, Finland lived in peace, those men who wanted to still fight against communism joined, they wanted to join under German flag to destroy communism, they fought for the Finland. Communism in Russia was Finlands worst enemy, no the russian people, just communism .

I'm ashamed what our goverment did when they gave up your volunteers, that is true! But that wasn't our soldiers decision! Waffen SS uniform is only an army uniform. It is as good uniform as USA army uniform or any other army´s uniform. As well I could claim that USA´s flag or USA´s army uniform is some kind of shamefull thing/symbol of evil. PutYourSpamHere. Swastika is a ancient symbol only. Swastika was the military symbol of our air force since 1918. It was our military symbol before Hitler and his party began to use it too. Swastika came to Finland from Sweden. If you do not like swastika, so what! Some of our army´s jew origin soldiers/officers got even German Iron Cross medal during that war. It is guite common knowledge in Europe that some people in USA are really stupid (poor education or?). Your comments are good example.

True. Finns were great to fight later and we envy you for eternity for that, but you were afraid (as afraid as swedes were to support you) to support us in 1939 when we got our ultimatum and turned to you for help. Everybody was afraid to breethe while soviets attacked everybody one after other. Also both finns and swedes gave our (both est. and lat.) soldiers to the russians to be killed on first soviet demand in 1945 to save their own asses. We should learn from that but we havent. Have we?

that alliance fell also because Sweden was eager to get Åland (Ahvenanmaa) "back", and Finland didn't want to give it, it made relations of Sweden and Finland quite bad and also almost ignited war.

There were also negotiations with Scandinavian countries about an alliance but that fell through because of our neighbours in the west were too scared to do something that would possibly offend the Russians or the Germans. So we were alone for the first attack. One Russian general said to a another who was fighting us in Winter War that "why are you not happy, you won land in that war!?" He answered, "just barely enough to bury our dead!!!"
